How to make shnik pies


 Shnik pie is a unique recipe from Moroccan cuisine that is prepared in a similar way to a croissant. They are leafy doughs made with butter, spread with jam and nuts, and are delicious.

Ingredients

  • 5 cups flour
  • 1.5 cups: whole milk - vegetable oil for frying
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 250g melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 10 grams vanilla
  • 1 Tbsp: Vinegar - Instant Yeast - Sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • To garnish: 4 tablespoons apricot jam
  • 6 tbsp roasted peanuts

How to prepare


  1. Put in eggs, sugar, salt, vanilla, oil, vinegar, milk and instant yeast, mix well, then gradually add flour, knead continuously until you get a uniform soft dough, then cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place Ferment for 30 minutes on one side, then divide the dough into 8 parts, knead into balls, let stand for 15 minutes, then use a rolling pin to roll out each ball very thinly, then brush with melted butter, then roll out the second ball, spread on the second On top of one layer, brush with butter and repeat the process until all is used, then roll out the dough and cut into 2cm thick slices.
  2. We press each piece into a disc and fry all the discs in vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium heat for 5 minutes until they turn golden brown, then we put them on paper towels to absorb excess oil, then we brush our faces with apricot jam, sprinkle with toasted pistachios and pour into a plate
