The difference between a hormonal and a non-hormonal IUD

There are types of IUDs, including the copper IUD, and this has a different mechanism of action than the hormonal IUD, and we will mention it to you:

A hormonal IUD: It releases a small amount of the hormone progesterone to prevent pregnancy and reduce capillaries in the endometrium.

It works to keep the sperm away from the egg by making the mucus in the cervix more viscous and thicker, thus preventing the passage of sperm or through the method of ovulation, which is to prevent eggs from leaving the ovary or reaching the fallopian tube for fertilization.

It is characterized by the fact that it lasts for many years, and after removal, fertility returns again.

There are different types of hormonal IUDs, and their effectiveness ranges from five to seven years.

It reduces menstrual cramps and makes and sometimes treats endometriosis.

A non-hormonal IUD: It is made of copper or made of treated plastic and intended for this. It works to prevent the sperm from reaching the egg by forming the letter T inside the uterus to close the fallopian tube opening, thus preventing the entry of sperm to fertilize the egg. [4]
