It is often said, in food, we must not forget to consume 5 fruits and vegetables a day. Only, did you know that some of them can also be great allies in your beauty routine?
The banana, for example, can be used as a nourishing treatment for damaged or dry hair, to restore its pep and shine!
Indeed, this fruit has virtues for your mane, from the scalp to the tips of the hair. Mixed with the right vegetable oils and other natural ingredients, you will quickly find silky and perfectly healthy hair.
In this article, you will know everything about the banana hair mask and my natural recipes, which are easy to reproduce at home.
The benefits of bananas on hair
Before sharing my homemade recipes with you, let's take a look at the benefits of this fruit. Here, I mainly expose its assets on your hair, but know that it is just as effective on the skin!
Let's already see what the banana brings to your mane.
Feeding
First of all, you should know that the banana ( 1 ) is very rich in:
- potassium;
- vitamins;
- calcium;
- carbohydrates;
- natural oils.
This fruit is therefore the ideal ingredient to integrate into your hair mask, to nourish it intensely.
Please note, I am talking about nutrition and not hydration, the two should not be confused.
So, for hungry hair, do not hesitate to apply this natural treatment. You will find them transformed!
Softener
Do you have frizzy hair? The banana can allow you to make your mane more flexible because it is composed of high silicon content.
Indeed, silica can be absorbed by our body, which helps it to produce collagen, this protein so dear to our hair to make it beautiful and supple.
Anti-dandruff
If you are prone to dandruff, applying bananas in the form of homemade hair care will be your saviour!
Yes, we know that dandruff often forms because of:
- irritation;
- pathogens (fungal or bacterial);
- a drought.
In any case, the banana will bring the necessary moisture to your scalp to effectively get rid of all these aggressions that cause dandruff, naturally and healthily!
Fortifying
This fruit really has it all, because, on its own, it is also able to promote hair growth.
Indeed, the banana is composed of antioxidants, reducing oxidative stress and strengthening your hair follicles, which, full of health, lengthen easily!
You will then find shiny hair full of vitality.
Banana: for which type of hair?
As I explained above, the banana is an ingredient of plant origin that is perfect for:
- dry hair ;
- broken hair;
- frizzy hair ;
- curly hair.
Indeed, these types of hair tend not to be hydrated all the way to the ends, so they need special attention and the banana is the ideal fruit to nourish them in depth.
That said, it will be perfect for all mane types, you just need to adjust its application. For example, it is better to avoid the roots if your hair regreases too quickly naturally or if it is greasy.
Finally, the banana remains a key element that brings nutrition, shine and suppleness to your hair, so you can all get started in the experiment!
Banana hair mask: my natural recipes
You know more about the many virtues of bananas as hair care, now it's time to introduce you to some recipes for homemade masks.
You should know that the whole principle of DIY is to modulate the ingredients according to your own needs, so you will easily find different gourmet recipes ( 2 ) to have nourished and radiantly healthy hair.
Banana, vegetable oils & honey
For this treatment, you will need:
- 1 very ripe organic banana;
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (avocado, argan, macadamia, etc.);
- 1 tablespoon of honey.
In a blender, place the pieces of the previously cut banana, with the vegetable oil and the honey, then mix until you obtain a smooth texture.
Apply to towel-dried, still damp hair – but not soaked! – Further, wrap them in a warm towel.
Then, leave on for 30 minutes to 1 hour, before rinsing generously with lukewarm water.
Attention, concerning the use of vegetable oils, I put a small flat for castor oil. Often the flagship ingredient for the hair, it is especially effective on the scalp, to strengthen your hair and promote its growth.
However, applied to the lengths, castor oil is not recommended.
Banana & olive oil
For dry hair, this recipe will be perfect! Simply :
- 1 very ripe organic banana;
- 50 ml of olive oil (or another vegetable oil of your choice).
Mix the banana with the oil to have a creamy and smooth texture, then apply to damp hair.
Then leave on for 30 minutes under a hot towel, before rinsing thoroughly with lukewarm water.
Banana Nourishing Mask
I end with a slightly more elaborate mask recipe, for very dry and brittle hair.
To do this, gather:
- 1 very ripe organic banana;
- 1 natural yoghurt;
- 1 teaspoon of honey;
- 1 egg yolk.
Mix the ingredients until you get a lump-free and creamy texture, then apply to damp hair.
Leave on for at least 1 hour, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
banana peel mask
Don't like a mess? Note that banana peel can also be used to make a treatment mask.
For that, nothing could be simpler, you just have to mix this skin, then add a little mineral water.
The rest, you know it: apply to damp hair, leave on for at least 30 minutes in a hot towel, then rinse with lukewarm water!
Frequency of use
For your hair to keep the banana, know that you can use it in two ways:
- as a cure, once a week for 2 months, before opting for another hair mask.
- in regular use, once a week or every 2 weeks.
In addition, know that if you have been generous in your proportions and you still have some care left, you can keep it for up to 2 days in your refrigerator.
This will be an opportunity to do a test on your face!
The final word
I hope this banana hair mask article and my natural recipes will make you want to pamper your hair!
I insisted on the mask, but it is quite possible to integrate the banana into your usual shampoo.
To do this, cut the banana into pieces, mix it, and introduce the smooth mixture directly into the bottle of your shampoo.
