How To Tell If Someone Is Fat - The 10 Signs


So you’re probably fed up with hearing about how to tell if someone is fat. If you’re anything like us, then you’re probably sick of constantly being reminded that this topic is so essential and needs constant attention. But there are a lot of people who could use a little help here, so here we are again.

 When it comes to telling if someone is overweight or obese or just has a little extra padding around the midsection, it can be surprisingly difficult.


 There are a lot of different factors that can come into play with determining whether or not someone is carrying around more than they should. We’ll try to break it down as simply as possible for anyone who finds themselves wondering how to tell if someone is fat.

Here we go, the big 10. Everyone may be a little different, but these will definitely help you figure out if someone is carrying extra weight.

  •  - They have a larger-than-average appetite 
  • - Which could be due to several different things. If they’re constantly eating larger portions, they might be storing up fat. It could also mean they have an eating disorder. If they have a tendency to eat more when they’re alone, they could be storing up too much anxiety. 
  • - They weigh themselves
  •  - People who are suffering from anxiety or depression are at a higher risk of “frequent” or “compulsive” overconsumption of food and are at a higher risk for obesity, so if someone is consistently weighing themselves, then it’s a good indicator that they’re struggling with these issues. 
  • - They have a higher-than-average BMI 
  • - If someone’s weight is consistently above what it should be based on their height, they could be carrying extra weight. There are a lot of different factors that can come into play with determining whether or not someone is carrying around more than they should.
  •  - They wear baggy clothes
  •  - Again, this could have a variety of different reasons. If someone is constantly wearing loose-fitting clothes, they could be trying to hide extra weight. It could also be an indicator of low self-esteem. 
  • - They avoid physical activity
  •  - A high BMI and obesity are often accompanied by lower activity levels, meaning that someone who avoids exercise could be caught up in the cycle of obesity. 
  • - Their stomach hangs over their belt
  •  - This is an easy way to tell if someone is carrying around extra weight. If you’re standing next to them and their stomach hangs over their belt (or if you can see it from the side), then they’re probably carrying around too much. 
  • - They’ve tried to lose weight in the past but had no success
  •  - This could mean a few things. If they’ve tried many times before, it could mean they’re truly at a weight they can’t get down.
  •  - They’ve had specific health issues before - Obesity is a risk factor for several health issues, including type 2 diabetes and certain cancers, so if someone has a history of this, it could explain why they’re struggling with excess weight
  •  - They’ve had periods in their life when they were leaner
  •  - This could mean a few different things. If they were leaner in their early 20s but have been heavier since then, it could be an indicator of poor eating habits or lack of exercise. If they were leaner as a child, it could mean that they were active and that their diet wasn’t poor by any means.
  •  - They’ve had a recent change in their eating or exercise habits - If someone has had no issues with their weight until recently, it could mean that they’ve had a change in their habits or that they’ve finally reached a happy weight.
